Attorney General

Incumbent Republican Ken Paxton is facing Democratic challenger Justin Nelson. At the same time, Paxton's facing federal felony charges of security fraud. Those charges were filed in 2015, and are based on actions in Collin County before he took office. Paxton has built a national conservative profile by leading lawsuits that challenge the Affordable Care Act and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Nelson, an Austin lawyer, has been hanging close in the few polls that have been done in this race for one of the most powerful legal jobs in Texas.
