The 15-member board decides curriculum, standards, student testing, special education programs, and textbooks for Texas public schools. It also oversees the Permanent School Fund. Members of the board do not receive pay, but are eligible for reimbursement for expenses incurred in the course of official business.Plazo de 4 años. Curriculum must guide teachers to prepare students for our technologically advancing future. The State Board has the responsibility to ensure students receive knowledge to be successful beyond high school and must find innovative means of meeting student learning needs. Student assessment must measure growth toward the ultimate goal of college or career success. Testing is not necessarily a true indication of gained knowledge or applicability to the real world. Policymakers must creatively consider accountability using research-based, student-centered standards. Special education programs must ensure all students receive necessary accommodations to learn,
My priority is to protect the growing funds to ensure Texas schools have financial protection. All students deserve equitable opportunities to learn, and distributions should directly reflect student needs and economic deficits.
Long range planning is extremely important and will be finalized next year. This vital blueprint will influence Texas education standards and priorities for the coming decades and must directly address futuristic educational needs. Adoption of Ethnic Studies and Sex Ed TEKS are also important upcoming topics. I believe students must learn about diverse ethnicities and cultures to foster a more understanding and compassionate society, and sex ed can be an effective means of relaying knowledge on physical and mental health and deterring teen pregnancy. I also strongly support local school districts and would only approve Charters with services accessible to all community students that are unat
