Being a college instructor for 10+ years gives me the interpersonal skills to work with a diverse population so I can explain things easily and have great listening skills. My criminal justice background brings a new perspective to understand the Sheriff's Dept. and the courts, which is nearly half of the County budget.
The arena will be funded largely by private funding and the remainder of the building expense and upkeep will be taken care of by the hotel/motel tax. I believe this is a good way to get a new venue, that is much needed, without having to raise individual taxes and it keeps the County will be able to reap the benefits, without the hassle of maintenance and operations of the facility. This is a win-win situation for the citizens and the County.
The most pressing issue right now is growth, which brings many challenges, such as infrastructure and crime prevention. I believe this can be addressed by promoting Lubbock County to new businesses from abroad, as well as helping local small businesses to open in their own communities. This will help provide additional tax revenue to help fund the construction of new roads and keep up with the manpower and fleet for the Sheriff's Department.

I have been involved and addressing community issues for 25 years. Self employment has help me learned numbers, budget and self control in finances. I value the responsibility of focusing on tax dollar abuse. Not to duplicate services. Never afraid to voice your concerns honestly especially difficult issues.
I will show support as proof that l am for progress, but l also want to be clear that this issue will not benefit all our citizens. If elected, l Will ask the commissioner's court to consider supporting an issue that will benefit every home owner in the county. To help find a way to implement locally a consumption tax or help find other options to replace property taxing. Allowing all public services and school district's to still be funded.
I will not support the software upgrade. Maintaining the school buses routes is first on my list. Supplying the Slaton Police Dept with a communication tower is next. I want to find every way to make sure our volunteer fire dept has everything they need to respond on emergency calls. I want to strengthen the communications between the citizens and the county. I will be the citizens strong voice and will not be afraid to voice there concerns.
