We must be real with our incarceration problem. Spending around $22,000 per prisoner each year, while housing roughly +/- 9500 for possession,
Texas needs to stop funding the massively wasteful prison industrial complex, which houses many non-violent offenders for possession. By allowing non-profit groups (that already exist) to educate these prisoners upon release, recidivism becomes almost non-existent and allows these individuals to become productive members of society, contributing to the economy. By releasing these prisoners, the cost savings for the average time incarcerated for possession (4 years) , we can save +/- $790,000,000. Eliminating the $90,000,000 STAAR and replacing with a more effective, cost saving portfolio, we would have adequate funding for our education system.
I believe America has a problem with kindness and political division. Over half of gun deaths are actually suicides. We must look at the root of how we interact as a society, as the solution needs to come from hearts and minds of individuals. Criminals do not care about more laws, they are already criminals who opt to break them in the first place. It is not okay for me to restrict individuals in their right to self protection.
As a state candidate, I do not have much authority on this matter. The government causes prices to increase when involved in legislating entire industries. Incentivizing good practices through simple tax breaks would be a better option than inflating costs by throwing money and burdensome restrictions into the free-market. When ACA came into effect, insurance plans became less competitive, with high deductibles and premiums. Since the ACA was mandated, the cost increased exponentially for individuals.
1. We need to reign in property taxes and stop taxing people out of their homes. 2. Stop opting for bond packages that put an extra burden on taxpayers. We should not be creating debts for our future generations. 3. Stop paying companies with taxpayer funds to locate here, rather have a free-market friendly, low-tax system that organically attracts businesses.
We must create a mutually beneficial relationship with our bordering neighbors. Allowing peaceful individuals the opportunity to come work and go home when desired should be an agreeable approach. Currently, business owners who utilize the largest population of these workers, must pay a hefty fee to employ these individuals. Immigrants are an important component to our great state, contributing to our economy in purchasing goods and services, while also having labor skills for jobs that we would otherwise not be able to fill.
In the 4th grade, I wrote a paper regarding the Libertarian party and sought truth in economics and the role of government. My grandfather never stopped thirsting for knowledge and never finished learning, which is an attribute I aspire to maintain, especially regarding government issues.

Education funding must be restored to 2011 levels. We must change the way that funding is allocated to accommodate all Students in Texas and all schools in Texas.
The State must pay its fair share for schools which has not been the case since 2011.
We must implement background checks for all purchases of fire arms and ammunition. We must close the boyfriend loophole for domestic violence offenders. We must ensure that people who are mentally ill or violent do not have access to firearms.
The government must fully support the Affordable care act which includes Texas accepting the ACA expansion which is $9B per year. Texas is 49th in the United States in terms of health care.
Fully funding education. Accepting the ACA Medicaid Expansion for Texas. Implementing an accurate water plan which includes addressing the 130 cities with a water crisis or non drinkable water.
Compassion is missing from this conversation. Show me your papers puts law enforcement at risk and causes undocumented immigrants to not report violent crimes. Children in dog crates at the border is an abomination. As a State Senator i will support scholarships and instate college tuition rates for dreamers. I support sanctuary cities and Texas being a sanctuary State.
As an adult I was a single mom working 2 jobs. I lived in a trailer on an EPA superfund site and had an apartment with rats the size of house cats. This led me to a life of service and compassion including working with hundreds of survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence in Williamson County.
