I believe education is key to economic prosperity and family self sufficiency and that access to equitable, quality public education for all children is essential. I will work to advance educational equity by working with partners across the education field to better understand, develop and propose legislation that improves opportunities for all students. I will advocate and explore policy solutions related to the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, decreasing the digital divide, promoting college access programs and guided pathways to college degrees for students, credit transfer and articulation policies, aligning data systems, and broad and inclusive financial aid policies.
I believe we must fully fund our public schools to provide teachers and students the resources and support they need so all students can achieve academic excellence. I believe the legislature must collectively find the political will to fully fund our public schools.
Yes. I would support universal background checks on every gun sale and transfer within Texas, denying guns to people who have been convicted of a felony or domestic abuse, and requiring gun stores to do background checks on employees.
I believe the government should ensure there is affordable and accessible healthcare for all.
Transportation, Housing, and Education
Texas has appropriated hundreds of millions of dollars to border security that could be better utilized in other areas. We do not often talk about how those dollars could be better utilized in areas like public education, healthcare, and transportation. I believe we should be good stewards of public dollars and invest our money into in items that make the greatest positive impact for the most people.
Ever since I can remember my mother has had a strong commitment to education. She always emphasized the importance of education to my brother and me when we were growing up. She stressed that a college education could open up many doors and opportunities for us in our lives. I am very thankful for her encouragement.
