My decade of experience as an appellate Justice, hearing both civil and criminal cases, writing over one thousand opinions, as well as my previous years of experience as a United States Attorney in the Western District of Texas, private practice attorney, corporate counsel, and state and federal law clerk for judges makes me the best qualified.
Scientific improvements such as DNA testing, DWI blood draws, drug testing, and free services and representation for the indigent through Texas Access to Justice Program and the San Antonio Bar Association Civil Justice Program are all critical technological developments and access to justice. This clearly helps to preserve and improve the integrity of the judicial process in both civil and criminal cases treating all persons fairly and impartially regardless of their economic or social status.
My highest priority is to ensure the law is applied correctly, fairly, and impartially in a timely manner and with dignity, to everyone who comes before the court. This is the bases of our Constitution and Bill of Rights—to protect the rights of all citizens and to treat everyone fairly—this is the bases of our society, humanity, and country.

I am board certified in civil appellate law. I have dedicated my career to representing Texas families, injured workers, and exploited consumers as they seek justice in the US Supreme Court, 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, Texas Supreme Court, and almost all other Texas appellate courts. I practice primarily before the 4th Court of Appeals.
We need to fund our indigent defense system fairly. Appointed lawyers need access to the same resources the State has. If the DA can perform testing to establish a defendant's guilt, an appointed lawyer should be able to perform the same testing to establish his client's innocence. If the State has access to expert witnesses, an indigent defendant should be able to bring in expert witnesses to explain the technical aspects of a case to a jury. This is how we keep the scales of justice balanced.
Ensuring equal access to justice under the law is my highest priority. In private practice, I work hard to make sure that every client who walks through my door has the same opportunity for full and fair representation in our courts as any large corporation. The law should treat everyone the same. Period. If I am elected, I promise to apply the law fairly.
