Experience I have a degree from the University of Louisville, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Xavier University and my law degree from St. Mary’s University.
The relationship with the community served by the Court is built on Trust. Trust that the Judge will follow the law. Trust to protect due process and civil rights of an individual to achieve an impartial ruling. I have had the opportunity to allow doctors and parents decide Mental Health treatment for their children without forced court intervention. This means kids can turn 18 without the stigma of involuntary commitments. This also means saving families and taxpayers $270,000/yr in Ct Costs.
Over the last 4 years, I, with my staff, have published informational brochures explaining the probate process and what to do in a Mental Health crisis. We have educated guardians and attorneys on the rights of the disabled and the duties of those assisting them. We have created a court website so that the Rights of Wards and guardianship requisites are easily accessible. The Court has instituted strict compliance with monitoring fees charged to the estate. The individual is my 1st priority.

As a former Judge of 14 years, courtesy, respect and empathy are my touchstones and have authored, offered expert testimony and helped passed key legislation to protect these lives. I developed one of our county's first drug courts and a therapeutic mental health court, recognized as a national model. Judges must have a better understanding in improving the lives of people with mental health issues. We should require that all Judges attend ongoing education and training in mental health.
As a former Judge, our court was awarded for its collaboration. Weekly meetings with stakeholders, outreach & education, were part of what the Boston Globe reported made our County a national leader. Sadly, the probate process occurs during an emotional time in our lives. We must help with after-hours community outreach, education and collaboration. I pledge to create community meeting schedules, and coordinate with attorneys to provide count-wide community probate workshops, free of charge.
